Travel

Athens is located 60 miles to the east of Atlanta. All major airlines fly to Atlanta (Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport with code ATL).  The shuttle service Groome Transportation provides the 90 minute trip to Athens for $39 one way. Groome Transportation drops off and picks up at local hotels and near the math department, at the Georgia Center.

Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (code GSP) is a 2 hour, low traffic drive to or from Athens. You will need to rent a car if you land there.

Hotels

Blocks of rooms are being held for GDA participants at two hotels. Participants must make reservations themselves.

  • At the Holiday Inn Exress for $95 per night plus taxes. Reservations must be made by April 22 using the code GDA/University of Georgia.
  • At Hotel Indigo for $109 per night plus taxes. Reservations must be made by April 13 using the code Georgia Discrete Analysis Attendees.

There can be no reimbursement if you stay in an AirBnB or any other private home.

Athens

South Campus Deck is the car park closest to the math department. It is not free.

There are two UGA bus routes (free, you just hop on the bus). Soule Hall is the stop closest to the math department (only Intersession University Village stops there).

More information on Athens can be found at the Flagpole magazine guide.
